Dementia Pathway: Foundation - Introduction to Dementia

This course is a minimum standard for all Care Providers when caring for People with Dementia (PWD), and provides a basic knowledge of what Dementia is, the impact on the PWD and those supporting.

Outline

This course has been developed to enable learners to gain a basic knowledge of what Dementia is, a range of causes and the impact Dementia may have on an individual. Learners will get the opportunity to explore what is currently available to support individuals, their families and carers and where to signpost people for additional support. This course is a minimum standard for all Care Providers to have when caring for People with Dementia

This course is a minimum standard for all Care Providers to have when caring for People with Dementia

  • The impact of a diagnosis
  • How Dementia can affect a person’s health and wellbeing
  • Person centred approaches to living well with Dementia
  • Validation vs reality principles
  • Effective communication
  • Challenging discriminatory practice
  • Facilities and services currently available
  • Signposting to relevant organisations
